Bauchi Gov't. Signs MoU on Integrated Health Project with Marie Stopes Nigeria

The Bauchi state Government on Saturday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Marie Stopes Nigeria on Women Integrated Services for Health Extension Project (WISH -CE) to be implemented within 12 months.

Mr Emmanuel Ajah, Country Director, Marie Stopes Nigeria, said that the project was aimed to ensure sustainability and provide technical support to the state.

According to him,a technical and supportive supervision Quality Assurance Team(QAT) would also be inaugurated for the project.

He said that the role of the team is to ensure sustainability of quality data, demand creation and training on family planning and Reproductive health services at all levels.

Ajah further disclosed that the organization has introduced free toll lines for inquiries on family planning. 

He revealed that an average of 7,000 calls were received every month across the country.

“An average of 5,000 to 7,000 calls are received monthly across the country, ranging from women, girls boys and men on sexual reproductive heath and other health issues.

“Bauchi and Sokoto states will have additional 12 months to deepen their sustainability and assurance."

"The 12 months project is worth £780,000 to be implemented in the two states," he said.

Reacting, the state Deputy Governor, Sen. Baba Tela, said the present administration has invested immensely in the healthcare sector. 

He assured implementing partners in the state that the government would provide an enabling environment towards improved healthcare.

Also, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Othman Bilyaminu, said that the traditional institution would continue to create demand for reproductive and sexual health services.

He requested that the supply chain should not be interrupted for continued access to commodities in facilities.
