President Buhari Flags off 2022 Inaugural Hajj Flight in Maiduguri

Nigerian pilgrims to this year's Hajj to Saudi Arabia have been charged to be good ambassadors of the country and avoid breaking any Saudi laws especially those that relate to Covid-19 protocol.    

President Buhari who gave the charge in Maiduguri while inaugurating the maiden 2022 Hajj flight, described the occasion as historic coming two years after it was stopped because of the covid-19 pandemic.


Repressented by Borno State Governor Processor Baba Gana Umara Zulum, the president said the choice of Maiduguri for the maiden flight signifies that relative peace has returned to the state and that the security agencies are winning the war on insurgency.   

Borno state Governor professor Baba Gana Umara Zulum repressented by his deputy Usman Umar Kadafur commended officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and Borno state Pilgrims welfare Board for making adequate arrangements for the take off of the inaugural flight.    

On his part, deputy President General of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria and Shehu of Borno Abubakar Umar Garbai El Kanemi urged the pilgrims to pray for the country and it's leaders while in the holy land. 

He praised the airline Maxair for successfully carrying out a similar excercise nine years ago when he was the national Amirul Hajj and challenged it to repeat the feat.    

Also, chairman National Hajj Commission of Nigeria Alhaji Zikirullah Kunle Hassan said this year about 43 thousand Nigerians will perform the Hajj and adequate preparations have been made both hear and at the holy land. 

He said the first flight consists of 546 pilgrims and that others from the state would be airlifted in two subsequent flights.  

Some of the pilgrims interviewed expressed delight at the timely commencement of the excercise.
