USAID IHP Supports J4PD in Developing One Year Work Plan, SOPs

A Bauchi based media network known as Journalists for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD) with support from USAID funded Integrated Health Program ( USAID IHP) has commenced a Two Day strategic work plan targeting critical areas in public health, water sanitation and hygiene and health budget releases and tracking.

In a welcome remark shortly before the commencement of the work plan meeting held at the conference hall of Chartwell Hotel in Misau, the Coordinator of J4PD Ms. Elizabeth Kah expressed her appreciation to USAID IHP for supporting the new NGO to start on solid footing promising that, “J4PD will definitely justify the investment in us by USAID IHP”.

Kah said that J4PD was conceived by a group of journalists drawn from both print, electronic and new media with an overall goal of contributing their quota through it’s reportages with a view to bringing issues around public health, WASH and other related development issues to public domain stressing that, “it is J4PD’s candid belief that bringing evidence based reports to public domain will trigger policy makers and implementers to make informed decisions that would Improve service delivery in some critical sectors of human development in Bauchi State and beyond."

The coordinator also revealed that J4PD, as an infant NGO with experienced members, are open for collaboration with partners in it’s areas of competence.

The J4PD Coordinator then charged members to actively participate in the work plan development in order to have a sound starting point for operation as well as ensure that the NGO wins partnership and collaborations with other implementing partners in Bauchi State.

In a keynote address , the Bauchi State Director of USAID IHP, Dr Siaka Alhassan commended members of the NGO, recently registered by the Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission, for their resolve to work in one of the delicate areas of journalism that focuses on public health and related areas.

He also advised the NGO to channel their energy in carrying out sound and evidence based reports that can add value to their areas of focus.

Represented by the Director Finance and Administration of USAID IHP Bauchi office, Daniel Yerima, the State Director stressed the need for J4PD to develop a SMART work plan that is devoid of activities that are unrealistic.

“As an infant NGO that is just started, i am personally advising J4PD, for now, to concentrate their activities within Bauchi State.

“This will able you to learn the rudiments and practice of implementing your work plan without the distraction of being in different environment”, said the Director.

Our correspondent reports that J4PD members were taken through key topics around Budget Process in an Organization, GESI, Financial and Operational policies that can enhance their performance as an entity.
