Court Restraints Ganduje from Borrowing N10bn to Install CCTV Cameras in Kano

ABDULLAHI UMAR GAMDUJE
Kano State Governor

A Federal Court in Kano has barred the state government from borrowing N10 billion to buy CCTV cameras.

The court, presided over by Judge Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, ruled that the debt should not be taken out of court and ordered that the order be complied with.

The Kano First Forum (KFF) has filed a lawsuit, seeking an injunction restraining the Kano governor from incurring the debt.

In a petition, the group challenged the Kano governor saying it would be done illegally.

Residents of Kano have been reacting since Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje tried to borrow money, which he said would improve security in the state.

In their response to the debt crisis, civil society groups in Kano alleged that in the past such loans had been taken in the name of improving education, and providing more transport vehicles but not seen on the ground.

But Ganduje government supporters are defending the move, saying "before you blame Ganduje, here is one of the bridges he built in Kano and it is not one of the first three of its kind", according to Mohammed Shehu on his Facebook page. .
