Earthquake Kills 42 in India

Rescue workers in India's northeastern state of Manipur are searching for 20 missing people, days after a powerful earthquake.

More than 40 people have died in the quake so far, which also damaged part of a railway station.

Most of the victims were laborers and members of the Indian Army volunteer group.

Authorities say torrential rains and an earthquake have hampered rescue efforts.

Extreme levels of rainfall have led to serious floods in India's northeastern states, particularly Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura.

This has had a devastating effect on the state of Assam, where more than 150 people have died as a result of floods and earthquakes affecting millions of people.

Eighteen people were rescued alive from the scene over the weekend. But officials there told the BBC it was only God's "power" that would save many lives.
