Nigeria's President Muhammadu has said he was disappointed by the country's intelligence agencies following the attack on the Kuje Prison in Abuja on Tuesday night.
The president made the remarks during a visit to the prison on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by his presidential aide Malam Garba Shehu.
He said, "The intelligence agencies have embarrassed me. How can terrorists prepare, take up arms to attack a security checkpoint and flee?"
The president spent about 30 minutes in prison and asked a number of questions.
"How did the prison guards fail to stop the attack? How many prisoners are there? How many can be traced? How many officers were on duty at the time of the incident? How many were carrying weapons?
"Did the prison guards climb the tower? Is the security camera working?" All of these are the questions the president asked in prison.
The president later said he needed to be briefed on how the incident happened.
