MANASSAH DANIEL

He said " Ever since the establishment of the NYSC Scheme by the Regime of General Yakubu Gowon on the 22nd May, 1973 and the eventual creation of Gombe State on 1st October, 1996 by General Sani Abacha (GCFR) the State has been enjoying the services of the National Youth Corps Service members. Over the years, these youth Corps members have been bridging the man-power need-gap in the state. That the NYSC has been relevant, responsive and available in the Urban and particularly the rural areas, makes it an organization communities in Gombe are yearning for, always".

"My dear Corps members, you have been in the state for the last one year, where you rendered your service to the state in the area of education, health, agriculture and other sectors of the economy. I am sure you have apart from your Primary assignment interacted enough with the community/ environment to enable you comprehend and appreciate the culture, values of others".

"My patriotic youth corpers, permit me to observe that at the end of this your " duty tour" the issue of employment in both the private and public sector in order to continue your service to the nation is the immediate challenge before you. While it is your right to do so, I am compelled ( based on the reality on ground) to advise you to take advantage of the abundant natural resources God has blessed the nation with and see how you can engage yourself and produce products for use or consumption by the society. Please take advantage of Government initiated programmes to assist and ensure that you become self-reliant rather than looking for non- existent white collar jobs."

He urged them to incubate the spirit of selfless service to humanity and not to see their opinions, culture and religion as the law of nature so as to create harmonious environment where everyone shall contribute his or her part in national development.

He added" you will agree with me that based on the numerous challenges confronting the nation today, the experiences you had, your understanding of other people's culture , religion and language can contribute greatly in reducing some of these problems in the nation. It is on this account that the founding fathers of NYSC Scheme, it's past Directors General and of course the present Director General, Brigadier General M.K.Fadah are highly appreciated and the nation remains grateful to them. I therefore urged all Nigerians to do all they can to contribute for the continuous success of the scheme".
