The opposition People's Democratic Party PDP, had filed a lawsuit asking the court to compel the National Electoral Commission, INEC to restrain the candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC, Bola Tinubu and the Labor Party, Peter Obi from changing their running mates in the forthcoming general election comes 2023.

Also, the PDP party is asking the court to declare Tinubu and Obi ineligible to run for office, unless their former persons who were presented to the commission as their running mates will participate in the election.

It would be recalled that Bola Ahmed Tinubu of APC who has changed his chosen one Kabiru Masari and replaced him with the former governor of Borno State Kashim Shettima.

Peter Obi of the Labor Party replaced Dr. Doyin Okupe and introduced Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate in the election.

In essence, the case filed by the PDP is asking the court to prevent the National Electoral Commission from replacing the names of the deputy candidates that were presented to it earlier.

The presidential candidates submitted the names of those who were the first to see that the deadline given to them by the National Electoral Commission of June 17 is about to expire.

Then the electoral commission gave them a period of one month to change their running mates, if they need.

After weeks of discussions and negotiations Tinubu chose Shettima, Obi chose Senator Baba-Ahmed while Masari and Okupe stepped down.
