The Ondo State Police Command says it is investigating reports of child abductions in the Valentino area of the state.
The force told BBC Pidgin on Saturday that the move followed news they had received of an attempted kidnapping of children at the same time in the area.
A video posted on Twitter shows some locals breaking into a police station to find out more.
State police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami said they were investigating and called on residents to remain calm.
Kano State in the north has also been plagued by child abductions for some time, prompting the state government to set up a special committee to identify and repatriate abducted children after relocating them and changing their names. in Nigeria.
