A man in Ogun, Ponle Adebanjo, has set fire to his wife, Lateefat, killing her for running away and leaving him due to consistent beating.
The incident took place on Saturday in Otun-Akute area of Ogun State, Punch reported.
State police spokesman DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the husband accompanied the woman to a house in her area on Saturday night, found her praying and poured petrol on her, then set her on fire.
A police spokesman said in a statement that the woman also summon courage and got hold of her husband until people came and intervened.
The spokesman said the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital and her husband later died, according to the statement, after he was arrested by police.
