Gombe Flood: Government Sympathizes with Victims, Presents Relief Materials

The Government of Gombe State has today visited Bajoga in Funakaye Local Government Area to sympathise and condole with the people over the recent flood disaster that has ravaged some parts of the local Government Headquarters.

While at Bajoga the delegation visited the Emir's palace, and inspected affected houses as well as performed the flagg-off of distribution of relief materials at the Agriculture Centre.

Led by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, Ph.D, the high powered government delegation sympathised with the Emir and all the affected people for encurring a great loss.

At the palace, the Deputy Governor enjoined the Emir and his subjects to accept the incidence as it is, since it has already happened and whatever has taken place can never be reversed.

He was however quick to add that "since the Almighty God who created humanity knows all, and allowed it to happen, we will only accept in good faith and continue to pray that it will never happen again."

He assured them of government's continued efforts towards ensuring the safety of it's citizens pointing out that, the Governor has directed the Commissioners of Works and Housing, to carry out an assessment of the damages for the government to know how , and where to assist towards mitigating the effect and forestalling future occurrence.

He said the relief materials is to provide immidiate succour to the affected persons so that they can go on with their normal activities awaiting governments further decision on the matter.

The Deputy Governor urged the Committee in charge of the distribution of the relief materials to ensure the affected people for whom the materials are meant, get what is due to them.

At the palace the Emir of Funakaye, Alh. Mu'azu Mohammed Kwairanga the third, appreciated the magnanimity of the state Governor and his concern for the people of the state and in particular the People of Funakaye for prompt response to their situation.

He said, for about three delegations coming separately, all in connection with the flood disaster shows the love and concern the Governor has for the people in his chiefdom.

Reflecting on the magnitude of the flood disaster, the Emir expressed the need for government's quick intervention to remedy future occurrence by expanding the culverts and drainages within Bajoga with a view of reducing over flow of water into the town.

He assured the Deputy Governor to ensure the relief materials are judiciously shared among the people they are meant.

The Chairman, Funakaye Local Government Area, Alh. Ibrahim Adamu Cheldu appreciated the concern shown them by the government, pledging to reciprocate the gesture when the time comes.

He appealed to the Governor to consider relocating the people in the affected area to a safer place or to create a large space for passage of water by building a full pledged bridge to bring a permanent solution to the problem of flooding in the affected area.

At the point of distribution of relief materials, the Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Alh. Ibrahim Shehu Madugu and Chairman Funakaye Local Government Area, Alh. Ibrahim Adamu Cheldu received the delegation and explained that the event was to provide immidiate relief to victims of flood disaster.

The Commissioner further explained that the items provided for Distribution include, Rice, Maize, Beans, Groundnut oil, Mats, and blankets among others. He said, all the listed items are in 300 bags, gallons and pieces.

He presented a sum of #150,000 naira to the Chief Medical Officer, Bajoga General Hospital for commencement of urgent treatment of those wounded or sick as a result of the flood disaster.

The Deputy Governor flagged-off the distribution and directs the continued distribution to others shortly after inspection the affected houses.

Members of the delegation are, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Commissioners of Works Alh. Abubakar Bappa, Trade, Industry and Tourism, Alh. Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu-mni, Women Affairs, Mrs Naomi J.J. Awak, Internal Security, and Ethical Orientation Alh. Adamu Dishi Kupto, Youths Development,Alh. Abubakar Aminu Musa, Cooperative and Rural Development,Alh.Muhammadu Danladi Adamu and special Advisers on health and that of political matters among others.
