The Gombe State Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, Ph.D, has urged the members of the Nigeria Medical Association to imbibe spirit of job ethics and professional practice in line with the oath they have sworn-to, to safe lives.
The Deputy Governor who, was speaking when the officials of Gombe Chapter of the NMA paid him a courtesy call in his office said, in view of numerous challenges facing the profession they would have to go an extra mile if they must meet the health needs of the people.
Manassah Jatau noted that, the Doctor- Patient ratio is very low and called on the medical personnnel to do more and be able to make great sacrifices so as to rise up to the challenges facing the profession.
He said, "our administration has identified health as a priority based on the fact that, without health there is nothing good that can happen. Our resolve is therefore to improve on the health of the populace so that all other things shall be done successfully."
"We have ensured providing functional health centers in all our hundred and fourteen wards across the state to provide twenty- four hour service to the people. We have also provided a laboratory for testing coronavirus, and other diseases like Lassa Fever, Monkey Pox and even Elephant Pox if there should be."
"May I draw your attention to the fact leadership and especially in the medical profession requires sacrifice. Let your members especially those in the private hospitals know that, the delivery of your services should be more humane than fully market- based."
The Deputy Governor assured of the administration s commitment to support the Nigerian Medical Association to succeed in their activities.
He said, as a medical sociologist, he has a passion for health and shall continue to contribute in that respect, calling on the Medical Doctors to look more into the social aspect of man than the biological aspect so as to reduce the use of chemicals as medicine which creates more problem on health.
He expressed delight that, the intending visit by the Medical Doctors across Nigeria to Gombe State shall provide a forum for the state to showcase it's potentials and would also give the Doctors the opportunity to prove what they have been hearing about the state.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Gombe State Chapter, Dr. Mahdi Bello said they were in the Deputy Governor's Office to intimate him of their activities which includes hosting of National Executive Council Meeting coming up on 28th August, to 4th September, 2022.
Dr. Mahdi Bello explained that, the State Chapter of the NMA has won the hosting right of National Executive Council Meeting courtesy of the relative peace enjoyed and the infrastructural development of the state.
He further explained that, the hosting of the NEC Meeting goes with so much financial implications and solicited for support from the state government.
He appreciated the establishment of Hospital Management Board Gombe State and other supports the Government of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is giving to the health profession.
