Bauchi Gov't Co-opts Hunters Into Forest Guard

Bauchi state government has coopted the state command of the Nigerian Hunters and Forestry Security Service into its forest guard in an effort to tackle crime and criminality in forest reserves. 

The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Security, Umar Aliyu disclosed this while briefing Government House Correspondents on the development. 

Umar Aliyu, who is the Commander of Hunters in the state, appreciated the state government for finding the Hunters worthy to be included into the forest guard, and pledged to reciprocate the gesture by discharging their duties in accordance with the terms of reference of engagement.

He also assured that, with this development, the hunters will compliment the effort of the forest guard in checkmating the menace of deforestation, logging and charcoal making in line with extant rules and regulations guiding the forest reserves. 

"We are grateful to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for appointing our organisation, the Nigerian Hunters and Forestry Security Service into the state forest guard. We will contribute positively towards securing our forest across the state.

"We appreciate the State Government for the number of support to hunters in Bauchi and we will use our security network to assist the state government in the area of security management."

The SSA used the medium to commend Governor Bala Mohammed for coming up with a new initiative of supporting and enhancing the operations of vigilantes in the state for the maintenance of peace and security.
