Nigeria's Unity Despite its Diversity 62 Years After Independence Gratifying - Governor Bala

Samuel Luka, Bauchi

GOV. BALA MUHAMMAD
Executive Governor, Bauchi State

The Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Mohammed has described as gratifying, the unity of Nigeria 62 years after independence.

The Governor stated this in a goodwill message to mark the 62 years independence anniversary of Nigeria which was signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mohammed Mukhtar Gidado yesterday.

"As we celebrate the 62nd Independence anniversary, we  should reflect  on the struggle and sacrifice of the founding fathers of this country and also strive to ensure that their labour shall not be in vain", the Governor said.

"It is gratifying to note that sixty two years after independence we have belied the skepticism on our ability to govern ourselves," he added.

The Governor said Nigerians have shown to the world that they are not only able to govern themselves, but are able to understand their differences, respect each other’s values and unite towards developing the country despite their diverse cultures.

"Like many other countries, however Nigeria has in the process of its growth experienced a lot of turbulence in the last 62 years," he said.

According to him, Nigeria has suffered serious setbacks in the political arena which seriously affected its political and economic growth.

The Governor said that the long period of military involvement in the political spectrum of Nigeria had seriously retarded the evolution of democracy and its inherent benefits.

"It is however, gladdening that today democracy has found its roots in the country. The Dividends of Democracy are Manifest and the itizens are happy," he noted.

Governor Bala pointed out that in Bauchi State, his administration has taken a multi-dimensional approach to all the developmental projects which resulted in success all round, particularly in infrastructural development.
