Concerned Labour Party Members Pass Vote of No Confidence on Ibeju-Lekki LGA Acting Chairman, Call for His Immediate Suspension

A group of concerned members of the Labour Party (LP) in Ibeju-Lekki LGA of Lagos State has passed a vote of no confidence on the Acting Chairman of the party in the area, Mr Iyke Onugha calling for his immediate suspension.

The Concerned members in a petition they signed and addressed to State Chairman of the party, Comrade Kayode Salako. passed a Vote of No Confidence on the Labour Party Acting Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, -Mr Iyke Onugha.

According to the petition addressed to the State Chairman of the party and copied to other relevant officers, copies of which were made available to Journalists in Bauchi after a special meeting of the Labour Party, "The Acting Labour Party Chairman-Mr Iyke Onugha has completely and totally lost grip of the Party due to his selfish, parochial and arrogant petulance which is threatening to make nonsense of all our efforts at forming a viable fort against the forces of oppression and repression that has held our great Nation down for ages."

The petitioners added that, "Rather than being a leader who should marshal out pragmatic programmes and galvanize all into action, he has unfortunately become the devils advocate. He can simply be considered an obtuse fellow who lacks the wit, experience and necessary leadership skills to lead us to certain victory."

"In view of these, we, the concerned members of our Great Party here in Ibeju Lekki have decided to formally submit this petition/vote of no confidence to your office for your information and necessary action", the petition further contained.

According to them, "Our grievances against our Party’s Acting Chairman are clearly enumerated below: Authoritarian / Dictatorial and Reckless Leadership. The Acting Chairman has no iota of respect nor regards for members of the Party. He is abusive in his utterances towards all."

"He interprets every contrary opinion to his as an attempt to challenge or take over his office. He is quick to issue threats to members of the Party and have thrown decorum overboard and have engaged in fisticuffs with members who have laboured hard to put the structures on ground in Ibeju Lekki on several occasions", they further alleged.

"Sir, you will recall that recently his Excos had to come to the Secretariat to lay numerous complains about his style of leadership. He has divided the Party so badly that members have lost steam hence, our numbers keep decreasing at meeting", they also alleged.

On Financial Aggrandizements, the petitioners alleged that, "Mr Iyke Onugha regularly uses the name of the State Chairman to persuade Ward Chairmen and other stake holders to donate monies for him for personal use such as car repairs, organization of his father in-laws burial and other sundry issues that have nothing to do with our collective aspirations."

According to the petitioners, "The party has become his personal cash cow. Lack of Financial Accountability. Our Acting Chairman is not transparent with the finances of the Party and has demonstrated this on several occasions which are readily verifiable."

They also alleged  Lack of Knowledge of Party Grassroots Mobilization and Organisation of Ward E where he belongs which has so dwindled in membership strength that their last meeting recorded an all-time low of just 12 members in attendance which is an indication of his abysmal failure at leadership stressing that "his ward ought to be the flagship for all wards in Ibeju Lekki."

He has not contributed to the growth of that Ward. Please can he show you the records of the numbers of the people in Ward E polling units? Sure he has not done one job in any of his polling unit. It might also interest you to know that he does not have general data of all his members in Ibeju Lekki.

"Furthermore, the LGA Acting Chairman has never call for Ward Chairmen meeting before. Power Intoxication. As Acting Chairperson of Ibeju Lekki, his inter-personal relationship with members of the Party is zero. He bullies and threaten members to submission.

He endlessly brags that the whole LGA Chairmen has a BOND with the State Chairman, therefore he can do anything he wants and nothing will happen", they further alleged.

The petition further contained, "Sir, he has become a loose canon that may spell doom for our great party. He has even gone ahead to instruct that we vote only Peter Obi and forget the rest votes for Labour Party. Who does that? or Sir, is this an instruction from the State level to the Local Government levels?"

They also alleged that he is in pursuit Of Personal Vendetta stating that,"Mr Iyke Onuoha at this crucial stage of the campaign is bent on dissolving Ward Executives of the Party in the LGA because of a personal issue he has with one or two of the ward chairmen."

According to them, "He is about to destabilize the party structures in the local government he was never instrumental in setting up without thinking of the implications of this action.

The Wards make up the Party hence in dealing with issues at the Ward level, one needs to be careful because of its sensitive nature; moreover the Wards have since metamorphosed into well structured entities and consent of Wards members have to be sought before such any outlandish move or change can be effected."

"Sir, in view of the above reasons, which are not even exhaustive, we strongly advice that Mr Iyke Onugha should not be confirmed as Labour Party LGA Chairman of Ibeju Lekki as he does not command the respect, trust and support of the members of the Party in the LGA.

It has been from one trouble to another under his reign so far", they told the State Chairman.

They also alleged that, "He has seriously violated the ethos of our great Party."

We definitely cannot move forward with the like of Mr. Iyke Onugha in charge of Ibeju Lekki. This is a clarion call from all concerned members of our great party in Ibeju Lekki who have suffered under his draconian leadership. Enough is Enough".
