Gov. Bala Mohammed Commissions Two Model PHCCs in Bauchi Metropolis

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of Thursday evening said his administration is trying its best to address challenges in the health sector, especially in areas of service delivery, infrastructure, and human resource.

The governor who made this known at the commissioning of two State-of-the-art Primary Health Care Centres at Gida-dubu Housing Estate and Fadamar-Mada community, explained that, the two commissioned healthcare centres, are among the 15 health facilities constructed by his administration this year.

Governor Bala Mohammed recalled that, the present administration had given high priority to the health and development of its citizens since inception, it has constructed 4 General Hospitals and 15 Primary Health Care Centres in addition to the renovation and equipping 10 Secondary and 10 Primary Health facilities across the state as well as the107 and 204 Primary and Secondary Health Facilities renovated and upgraded through the support of EU-UNICEF and NSHIP Projects respectively. 

He appreciated developmental partners for their numerous support to the state in the health and other sectors of development, saying that the state government has redeemed its Primary Health Care MoU counterpart obligations 100%, and therefore reiterated continuous commitment to the MoU partnership.

The governor pointed out that, to improve the standard of the state’s health training institutions, the state government has constructed and furnished two hostels, two lecture halls and ICT centre in the Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Sciences Bauchi, in which same were replicated in other tertiary health institutions.

"To address the lingering challenges of Human Resource for Health, the government has lifted the inherited decades long embargo on employment , particularly in the health sector .We have recently recruited 1,061 health workers from different cadres of health profession. This is in addition to the 116 community midwives recruited and deployed to serve at various Primary Health Care facilities across the state.

"Also, 410 Skilled Birth Attendants (Midwives) were engaged through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, and 24 Medical Doctors contracted with support from UNICEF to provide clinical services in selected high-volume Primary Health Care Centres, especially in the underserve and rural communities. This is in addition to the first batch of 18 Doctors recruited following the open approval for the employment of 100 Doctors earlier given to the Ministry of Health.

"As a major to maintain the saturation of health care professionals in the State, this administration has also re-introduced the pre-service scheme where students offering medical and health courses are given automatic employment upon admission into tertiary institutions. 

Governor Bala Mohammed urged benefitting communities in the newly constructed  healthcare centres to patronize the facilities and promised that, his administration will not relent in coming up with policies for the overall improvement of the health and wellbeing of the populace especially mothers and their children.

On his part, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Sabi’u Abdu Gwalabe joined the communities of Gida-dubu and Fadaman Mada to appreciate Governor Bala Mohammed for making their decades long dreams to reality, adding that, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Development Agency have identified experienced health professionals and already posted to serve in the facilities.

"We in the health sector have no words to express our appreciation to the high priority given to the sector. Within the first 3 years of the tenure of this administration, laudable projects and programmes were initiated and accomplished. These include; Construction, renovation and upgrade of health facilities at both Primary and Secondary levels including staff accommodations

Provision of essential medicines, consumables, and equipment, recruitment of frontline health workers, these are in addition to the prompt approval and releases of funds for operations and response to emergencies such as disease outbreaks, surveillance, immunization, including community awareness and demand generation activities.
