2023: Bauchi CSOs Advocate for Violence-Free Election

The umbrella of Civil Society Organizations under the auspices of the Executive Director's Forum (EDs-Forum) has embarked on a one-day sensitization campaign on free violence ahead of the forthcoming general election in the State. 

Hundreds of members of the forum converge at the popular Wunti Round-about in front of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium and move down to the traffic junctions in the metropolitan city carrying fosters and placards with inscriptions such as "Vote Don't Fight,"  "Say No to Electoral Violence,"  "Your Vote Matters,"  "Your Vote Count," as well as "Your PVC is Your Right."

The State Chairman of the EDs Forum, Malam Sodangi A. Chindo said the aim of the rally was to sensitize and educate the citizen on their right and power to vote and to have a free, fair, and credible exercise during the forthcoming general election in the State. 

Chindo said the EDs forum is contributing towards ensuring of free, fair elections, free violence as well as to making people know that they have the right to vote peacefully, "and without peace, you can not achieve any and avoid making injury to the exercise."

He calls on the teaming youth to change the negative narrative by using their energy to bring about peaceful elections instead of engaging in violence and thuggery acts that would probably endanger their lives

According to China, explained that youth are the most vulnerable group in the election and therefore, they should know that, If the elections are violent, it will be also detrimental to their future. 

"The parent need to counsel their children not to be involved in political violence and thuggery during the election period right from homes before it comes to the general public and informs the youth it's not to their benefit to involve in violence."

Earlier, the coordinator and treasurer of the CSO EDs Forum, Amb. Maikudi Grace said the ultimate aim and goals of the sensitization program was to inform the general public on the need that the forthcoming elections is being conducted free, fair a credible without any violence in the State. 

Besides, the sensitization was also targeting the teaming youth, to tell them that being aggressive will not give them any vote, rather they're expected to come out to vote in a peaceful atmosphere manner. 

"We want the general public to know that, the power of votes is in their hands" adding that "If you didn't execute it very well, you're the ones to suffer the consequences of your actions in the future," she warned.

Corroborating the Executive Director FACE-PAM, Ado Solomon called on the youth to remember that violence doesn't pay, they should avoid "Sara Suka" saying that "The politicians that would engage you into violence, their children are studying abroad. I urged the youth to say "No To Violence" and say "Yes To Free Election."

He urged the youth to take only their PVCs to polling units and vote peacefully and to deceased from taking anything like drugs or alcohol during the elections. 

Also speaking, the Executive Director of Husna Foundation, Hassana Lawal Bello, calls on the women to know that their vote is their right and their PVC is also their power. 

She urged the women not to sell out their votes at cheaper amount of N1000-N5000 at the detriment of their families future and to collect whatever is given out to them and ensure that they vote for a candidate of their choice. 

The theme of the sensitization campaign was tagged: "Support Free and Fair Election 2023, Give Peace A Chance in 2023 General Election and Ensure a Peaceful Nigeria."

Highlights of the program witnessed the distribution of pamphlets and plairs containing 19 points of actions to motorists and passbye people.
