The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state has faulted Bauchi Emirate Council for stripping off the traditional title of Wazirin Bauchi on elderstateman Alhaji Bello Kirfi.
Mr Sabo Mohammed, the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the party made the condemnation in an interview with Newsmen on Wednesday in Bauchi.
Mohammed who is also the Spokesperson of the APC Governorship candidate, Sadique Abubakar said the act is condemnable and undermines traditional institutions.
"We received with deep shock and sadness the announcement of suspension of one of the most Elderstateman, Alhaji Bello Kirfi , the Wazirin Bauchi.
"We are worried because the suspension of highly respected traditional title holders in Bauchi Emirate is becoming a recurring incident", he said.
According to him, you will recall that the Jakadan Bauchi was suspended in a very skirmish and politically motivated circumstance as well as the Wakilin Birni he was also suspended in what majority of the citizenry viewed as bad for traditional institutions.
He called on all the right thinking indigenes of the state to rise to this challenge because the treasure which our traditional institution is been intimidated,
"So it is not a good development and we are condemning it in totality and we are ready and willing to ensure that people are given their constitutional rights to voice their opinion on any issue that is within the confine of the law," he said.
He observed that the reason given for the removal of the Wazirin Bauchi was sketchy, pointing out that it doesn't tally with the reality on ground.
"That's why we said at the onset, it is just because he called the leaders of thought across the 20 local governments and he has spoken about his position on the presidency as well as the situation in Bauchi.
"We as a party, we respect the traditional institution and we know that they have their own limitations and this is not the first time this kind of thing is happening under this administration.
"Why now, when the Waziri of Bauchi called a meeting, expressed his opinion on national and state issues and that is what we felt triggered this action, so the reason given is just a cover up.
He said APC as a party respect traditional institutions, but look at it, it said 'on the instructions of the Honourable Commissioner ministry of Local government and chieftaincy affairs, so that is what brought the ota of political undertone on the issue.
Mohammed appealed to the Bauchi state government to respect the divergent opinion of the citizenry, irrespective of the party affiliation.
"Our thinking, as somebody who claimed to be a democrat, should as well listen to constructive criticisms with a view to at least correct the problem raised by some of these elderstatesmen in the state.
