GOC 3 Div. Urges Personnel to Strategize for Hitch-Free Elections

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army Jos Maj. Gen Abdulsalami Ibrahim has urged personnel of the Nigeria army and sister security agencies to prepare ahead of general elections and ensure a hitch-free elections.

Ibrahim made the call at the opening of  3 division operations planning training on Tuesday in Bauchi urging the personnel to remain professional and to be alive to their responsibilities.

He said the Nigeria army particularly has a role to play in ensuring that the democratic exercise is conducted in a secured atmosphere without any hitches.

“Elections are here, and when they come they are with their odds and challenges,’ he said.

The GOC said the training would prepare officers within the Division Area of Responsibility (AOR) with the tasks ahead in ensuring a hitch-free election.

"Hence, the lectures in this cadre are particularly crafted to provide security personnel operating in the North Central and Northeast regions of operations with the necessary tools for facing security challenges peculiar to these regions.

The GOC , represented by Maj Gen Eyitayo Oyinlola of the  3 Div explained that the training Cadre is timely.

"Considering the nature of operations the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies are currently undergoing across the Nation. 

"Militancy in the South, Insurgency in the Northeast and Banditry/terrorism in the Northwest," he said.

Ibrahim stressed that each form of insecurity has its own peculiar set of challenges requiring individualized training for security personnel operating in the various zones. 

"The lecture on Junior Leadership should be of particular interest to young officers who are deployed in various locations across the North Central and Northeast theaters of operations," Ibrahim said.

Maj Gen Ibrahim said the exercise is in tune with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, to have a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint operation in the defense of the country.

He implored participants not to rest on their oars adding that they should continue working assiduously with other security agencies toward maintaining and improving the security in the country.

The GOC urged the participants who are from diverse backgrounds to be objective in their contributions during the interactive sessions and as well to take keen interest in all the presentations during the Cadre training.

Our Correspondent reports that the participants were drawn from the Nigeria Army, Immigration Services, Civil Defense, Customs Services among others.
