2023: REC Assures Free, Fair Conclusive Election in Adamawa State

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Adamawa state, Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, has promised that the commission will conduct free fair, credible and acceptable elections in the state. 

Hudu who told journalists in Bauchi, said that the electoral commission does not have a political party, and he is not a member of any party and he has no reason to show favor any candidate or political party,all his efforts was to ensure that there should be justice and equality. 

The REC explained that the election was declared inconclusive due to the discrepancy found in the election results of the Fufore local Government Area, where the numbers of votes for members of the state assembly were found in the governorship election results sheets. 

He added that there were reports of the theft of ballot boxes by unknown persons along the road , which resulted in three different results that could not be resolved.

Commissioner Hudu said that when such problems occurred as it is Under the election laws, if you are found in such a situation, then the election will be declared in conclusive and the people will be given the opportunity to come out and vote again.

He said that although doing that did not please some people, but doing that is justice, he said that this is the reason why some politicians have threatened to his life, and some are even trying to held him. 

"I am the Chairman of the Electoral Security Committee of the security agencies while the Commissioner of Police insists that we must declare the results of the election because if we do not do that, he can't guarantee my security in Adamawa State."

He said the men of the Department of State Security Service took them out of the election results announcement room, where the soldiers took them barracks,
REC condemned the threat to his life and explained how he spent the night in the barracks.

He said that the situation was not good when they went again the next day and the military officers rescued them and took them to the airforce barracks, from.there they catch a flight to Abuja.

Although the INEC headquarters set the date of April 15 to conclude all the elections held across the country, Ari said that he is waiting for directives from the headquarters on what to do. 

He said that he is ready to do whatever the headquarters instructs him to do, his duty was to compiled the reports of all that had happened and submitted it to the INEC national headquarters, and whatever they decided on the matter is the thing to follow.
