MALARIA CASE MANAGEMENT: USAID-IHP Trains Health Care Workers in 475 Facilities in Bauchi State


The United States Agency for International Development Integrated Health Programme USAID-IHP revealed that it has trained 475 health care workers in Bauchi State in order to ensure proper case management of malaria in primary health facilities and also to ensue the quality management of severe malaria in general hospitals. 

This was disclosed by Integrated PHC Advisor of IHP Dr. Darlington Okoye during the flag off of the World Malaria Day Celebration held at Ningi Town Maternity PHC on Tuesday, 


Dr. Okoye said that IHP has supported Bauchi State in many ways to improve health care service delivery, and will continue to render more support. 

He said, "we are working in accordance with the goal of reducing prevalence of malaria from the existing prevalence rate, pushing it down to the barest minimum."


"IHP has actually supported Bauchi with a lot and lots of support. And one of the support is ensuring that a proper case management of malaria in primary health facilities and management of severe malaria in general hospitals are of quality in those facilities."

Dr. Okoye said, "IHP has trained in this areas in the 475 health facilities in the state to ensure there is quality of care of malaria." 


"Also we have diverse support that IHP has actually supported the state. We have also ensured that we have this external quality assurance that is actually done to ensure diagnosis in the state is actually properly o quality, and so IHP has actually supported the state in training 30 laboratory scientists in the state," he said. 

Dr Okoye said the main goal of IHP is to see and also support the state to make sure that malaria is fought to barest minimum so as to have a zero malaria in Bauchi State.
