NGO Intensifies Awareness Campaign on Peaceful Coexistence in Bauchi Communities

An Non-Governmental Organization, Attah Sister Helping Hands Foundation ASHHF has intensified for peaceful co-existence awareness campaigns among different tribes and religious groups in 13 communties of Ganjuwa and Bauchi local government areas of Bauchi state.

ASHHF was supported by Women for Women International (WFWI) trained not less than 100 community and religious leaders youth and women in 13 communities of Kafin Madaki Ganjuwa and Miri, Bauchi LGAs on the need to strengthen peaceful coexistence among communities.

Hajiya Jamila Sule from ASHHF in Kafin Madaki Community at the awareness meeting introduced the participants to the activities of ASHH foundation and WFWI. ASHH foundation is a women right organization whose mandate is to defend the rights of women and girls in the society, 

She advised the community members not to hesitate to report crimes against women such as rape, domestic violence, forceful marriage and neglect to ASHH Foundation for proper action and follow-up.  

According to her, peace is freedom from disturbance; absolute tranquility, it can also be viewed as the absence of war, and for peace to be sustainable.

"It is the duty of everyone in the society whether old or young, big or small regardless of one’s status in the community, and the vehicle to convey and ensure peace is understanding, without which peace will be a mirage," she said.

Sule also urged traditional leaders, security personnel and community representatives to preach peace to those at the grassroots for a better society.

Also Speaking, Mrs Precious Alfred explaining from some of the inscriptions from the IEC materials on peace were read and discussed with the participants.   

She stressed that the purpose for gathering the caliber of persons for this meeting was as a result of the positions they held in the community which will help to actualize stepping down the lessons learnt to their subordinates. 

Mr Audu Bala, a participant while sharing experience said in the just concluded generation election, many things have happened that could have truncated the peace of Ganjuwa. 

"For instance voters not adhering to the INEC rules in joining queues, selling of votes, over voting, snatching of ballot boxes, voters not willing to vote except money was given." 

"All aforementioned are capable of disrupting the peace and causing chaos in Ganjuwa. While in Miri, the participants appreciated WFWI and ASHH Foundation for bringing such programs to their community.
 
They also said that even though there was no problem during the past elections in their community, training would make an impact in future.
