WHO Celebrates 75th Anniversary, Conducts Medical Outreach In Bauchi

The World Health Organisation, WHO conducts a one-day free medical outreach for people of the Bauchi Emir's Palace and its environs, as part of activities to mark its 75th years of existence and the World Health Day. 

The medical outreach was held at the Primary Healthcare Centre of the palace in Bauchi local government area of trhe state.

In an interview with journalists shortly after the commencement of the exercise, the State Coordinator, WHO Dr Mahmud Sa'idu said the medical outreach has an open target for adults and children with Malaria, Diabetes, Hypertension, Upper Respiratory Track Infections and Ophthalmic problems.

Dr Sa'idu, represented by the Organization's Head of Surveillance and Disease Outbreak, Dr. Musa Kim, said WHO has been in the forefront globally rendering healthcare services to humans of all races and genders with the aim of addressing health issues as well as providing preventive measures against life threatening diseases.

He explained that free drugs are also prescribed and administered to patients with minor ailments and referrals were made for secondary and tertiary services for necessary action. 

Dr. Sa'idu said some of the notable successes recorded include, the certification of Nigeria as Guinea Worm-free by WHO in December 2013, Nigeria and the WHO AFRO Region were certified wild polio-free in August 2020 and in May 1980 the Global Commission for the Certification of Smallpox Eradication.

Earlier, the State's Commission of Health Dr. Sabi'u Gwalabe said WHO has been supporting Bauchi in the area of disease surveillance, routine immunization, capacity building and system strengthening.

Dr. Gwalabe who noted the enomous contributions of the World Health Organisation, said it had greatly impacted in the country's certification of Wild Polio Virus free.

The team had in the early earlier before the commencement of the medical outreach has paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu who thanked them for chosing the to celebrate its 75th years anniversary as well as this year's World Health Day.

During the visit the Emir was screened for hypertension and his Blood Pressure was certified to be normal.
