World Malaria Day: Bauchi State Distributes 2 Million ACT, 3 Million RDTs to Over 500 Public Health Facilities - BACATMA

Bauchi State government has over the years recorded a remarkable success in its efforts to ensure the control of malaria which include distribution of about 2 million doses of ACT anti malaria drugs through over 500 public health facilities as drugs revolving funds in the state, as well as distribution of 3 million Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits RDTs to over free of charge in the year 2022 to over 500 public health facilities. 

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS and Malaria BACATMA, Dr. Sani Mohammed while briefing the press on the occasion of the 2023 World Malaria Day held at Ningi Town Maternity on Tuesday. 

Represented by Director Tuberculosis from the Agency Abdullahi Gida, the chairman said Bauchi state government is working round the clock to ensure adequate control of malaria among pregnant women and children under five, hence recorded a lot of success. 


He said part of the success also, is the training of 82 health care providers on management of malaria in pregnancy, as well as training of 621 corps on community distribution of long-lasting insecticide treated net. 

Also narrating the success, the chairman added that, "there was training of 700 health care providers on malaria commodity logistics systems. There was training of 702 health care workers on case management of malaria and also training of 659 health care providers in integrated vector management." 


The chairman also said, "it is gratifying also to know that Bauchi State emerged as the best implementing state in 2022 exercise of the Seasonal Malaria Chemotherapy SMC in the whole country. 

He however added that the state government is still making more arrangements to ensure adequate control of malaria, of which soon, it will commence the mass distribution of about 4.4 million of long lasting insecticide treated mosquito Newton the state. 


Earlier, Integrated PHC Advisor of United State Agency for International Development (USAID-IHP) Dr Darlington Okoye said, in their effort to support Bauchi State, they have trained and equipped 30 laboratory scientists in the state to undertake the diagnosis of malaria among pregnant women and children U-5. 

Dr Okoye stressed that malaria remains one of the diseases that are negatively impacting life expectancy which must be tackled at all costs. 


He said that USAID-IHP will continue to support the government through its agencies to fight the malaria scourge in the state stressing that a combined effort is required in order to overcome the malaria scourge.


The USAID/IHP has been supporting Bauchi State government in many ways to improve its health care system for effective and efficient service delivery. 

Highlight of the event was drama presentation on the importance of regular visit to health care facilities by pregnant women.
