Bauchi State Government says it provides adequate fertilizer and other farming implements to meet the growing demands by farmers across the state with a view to encourage boomper harvest in this rainy season.
It also said a huge amount of money has been committed to procure over two hundred trucks MPK fertilizer for this farming season, provision of chemicals for the control agricultural related diseases and livestock animal vaccinations.
The State Governor Bala Mohammed made this known at the lunch of this year's farming season and sales of fertilizer in Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.
Governor Bala Mohammed who announced that the official price for a bag of MPK fertilizer is Fifteen Thousand Naira directed the State Ministry of Agriculture to monitor all negative tendances in the sales and distribution process.
While expressing concern with inability of farmers acquire the needed experience towards improving their activities, Governor Bala Mohammed noted that efforts are being made to employ more extension workers to address the challenges in the area.
Speaking, the Programme Manager, Bauchi State Agricultural Development Agency BSADP Abubakar Jafaru Ilelah and Commissioner of Agriculture Barrister Jidauna Tula Mbami called on farmers to plant early maturing crops in view of the forecast of Nigerian Metrological Agency NIMET which predicted low rainfall in northeastern part of the country.
The State Chairman All Farmers Association Alhaji Yusuf Gambo commended the state government for subsidizing the amount of fertilizer and other farming inputs noting that the gesture would go along way in encouraging large scale farming.
The event featured supervision of the sales of the farming implements by Governor Bala Mohammed and Goodwill Messages.
