Bauchi Tribunals Receives 45 Petitions

The Bauchi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Bauchi, has received 45 different petitions from aggrieved candidates and political parties, challenging the outcome of the last general elections in the state. 

The Tribunal pasted all the petitions received at the Tribunal Notice board. 

Four of the petitions were received from the governorship candidates of the All Progressive Congress APC Sadique Baba Abubakar, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP Senator Halliru Dauda Jika, Allied Peoples Movement APM, and Peoples Redemption Party PRP Barrister Umar Faruq Gwalabe, challenging the victory of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP at the March 18 governorship election. 

41 of the petitions were filed by dissatisfied National Assembly and state legislative candidates out of which five were received from aggrieved Senatorial candidates and parties. 

However, 10 House of Representatives candidates, and 26 House of Assembly candidates from various state constituencies filed petitions challenging the results of the House of Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, PDP, APC, SDP, APM and NNPP had dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission, winners of the elections and their Political Parties, before the Tribunal in their separate petitions.

The petitioners alleged that elections were not conducted in substantial compliance with a mandatory requirement of the Electoral Act, 2022 and guidelines as required as some were marred with irregularities, unauthentucated alterations of results failure of records of serial number inconsistencies, failure of electoral body officials to follow the rules of the election among others. 

A source at the Tribunal said all the members of the Tribunal are on grounds they are waiting to complete the days earmarked fir the respondents to respond before they will hold their inaugural sitting.
