IPCR Urges Stakeholders to Priotise Inclusive Religious, Education Policy

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has urged stakeholders to priotises inclusiveness in teaching system of education in the county. 

Similarly, the institute solicited for support from the stakeholders to move the bill for the demonstration and establishment of the National Christian Council of Nigeria. 

Speaking at a one day sensitization on policy dialogue on inclusive religious education in Bauchi, the IPCR Director General, Dr Joseph Ochogwu said the move was to create more awareness on the importance and benefits of the Bill in teaching curriculum in our schools. 
Dr Ochogwu who was represented by the IPCR senior research fellow, Paul Andrew Gwaza, explained that the Bill if demosticated at state and local government leaves, will give Christian brothers a sense of belonging which will promote unity, understanding, tolerance, human rights and freedom as well as friendship among nations. 

The DG further explained that the creation of National Council on Christian Education will greatly bring positive changes like the establishment of National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children's ascented in to law by the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in early this year Act 2023 as amended. As well as reducing costs and burden especially on churches. 

"The notion of inclusive religious is sharing personal beliefs, views and experiences with pupils while maintaining and impartial approach and creating a safe and inclusive classroom atmosphere through trust, respect and love. While not advocating the subject of children to religious teaching that are not of their parents," he said. 

He added that the interfaith provision is a major step towards broad religious is strengthening inclusive religious education, saying "It is hope that in the future national polices and programmes would be interfaith sensitive in order to promote national cohesion."

In their separate paper presentations, IPCR desk officer, Barr. Adamu Kwaltania and Barr. Moses Garba Yusuph a lecture from the faculty of Law, university of Jos all emphasised on the need for tolerance, love, unity and respect of laws from the citizens. 

Others challenges highlighted by some of the dignitaries including lack of knowledge, illetrecy, poverty and prostrations as well as cultural and religious beliefs. 

Our correspondent reports that event witnessed the presence of representatives of security personnel, judiciary, education, women affairs, religious affairs, youth and civil society organisations respectively.
