Bauchi Assembly Urges Government to Rehabilitate Dilapidated Media Organizations

Bauchi State House of Assembly has urged the State Government to as a matter of urgency and public interest rehabilitate the dilapidated media organizations in the state. 

The Assembly made the call on Wednesday during plenary in Bauchi, saying the deplorable state of the state's own media organizations are alarming.

Moving the motion on the floor of the house, the member representing Duguri Gwana Constituency, Dan Abdulahi Bala explained that media organizations don't serve the needs of the people in the state.

Bala urged the executive arm of government to focus attention on the dilapidation of the state-owned media organizations, Bauchi State Television (BATV), Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and the Community radio stations across the State.

He lamented that the media organizations are operating with a large number of casual staff who he said are mostly not trained to be able to work effectively for the stations.

"The media organizations have suffered neglect in the past which has led to the dilapidation of their equipment to the of becoming non-functional stressing that government must act urgently to salvage whatever is remaining of the organizations.

"The citizens need to learn from the media organizations government activities , national and international issues through the state owned Media organizations.

"We can't continue investing in other private media organizations while neglecting the state owned media organizations," he said.

He added that the media organizations would provide adequate awareness on health related campaigns, climate change among other issues to the benefits of the citizens.

The Member representing Chiromawa constituency Yahaya Ahmed Maikudi while supporting the motion described the state of media organizations as dilapidated and death organizations.

"As a matter of fact the media organizations total rehabilitation with State of the art equipment for people to enjoy the services."

"If the government is not willing to put it back use effectively should rather privatize them all and redeployed the staff to relevant ministries.

The house unanimously adopted the motion, the Speaker Mohammmed Babayo Akuyam directed the Clerk of the house to transmit the same to the executive arm of the state government.
