Deputy Senate President Absolve of Complicity in Gawuna's Loss at Supreme Court

From: Yemi Kanji, Bauchi

Deputy Senate President, Sen Barau Jibrin has been absolved of any complicity in the last Friday Supreme Court judgement that confirmed Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP as the duly elected Governor of Kano State.

Recall that some group of people described as mischief makers within the Kano state APC are said to be pointing accusing fingers at Sen. Barau Jibrin for allegedly being One of the brains behind Gawuna's failure at the Supreme Court.

While reacting to the development, a Chieftain of the APC in Kano State, Hon. Shu'aibu Mustapha, said that, "Those who have been into partisan politics throughout their lives, know that politics, in most cases, is a game of false accusations, finger pointing and mudslinging just to smear the hard-earned names of some public-spirited people they consider as their real or chimerical enemies."

According to him, "All these diabolical attitudes were mentioned times unnumbered in the holy scriptures i.e Qur'an and Bible. It is also the business of the bad eggs amongst us to fabricate and disseminate false, baseless and unfounded stories just to paint the great egret black."

Speaking in a telephone conversation, he also said that,"No bonafidé card-carrying member of the APC in Kano State, ignorant of the fact that without Senator Barau's ever-growing popularity in Kano, the APC would not have won any seat in the state considering the attitudes of some of its leaders towards the electorates even on the eve of the 2023 general elections."

Shu'aibu Mustapha stressed that,"But, despite the cashless policy of the then Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, Sen. Barau Jibrin owing to his unrivalled commitment to his people did not only win his Kano-North senatorial seat, but saved the necks of almost all those who contested for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly with the exception of Ganduje's biological son who was pipped to the post by another political heavyweight Hon. Tijjani Jobe of the NNPP."

"In fact, Barau's popularity cuts across all the Fourty Four Local Governments in Kano state, hence there is no Local Government you go and you don't find thousands of people working assiduously for Senator Barau with or without his consent because his generosity is palpably spotted in every nook and cranny of the state," he added.

He also said that,"I see no reason why some people must concoct lies to eke out a living and why must it always be against Senator Barau Jibrin even when there are other politicians occupying different types of positions both elective and appointive in the state?"

According to him,"Although, one Ghanian proverb says; only a stone that glitters attracts the attention of the passerby, I would want to call on the disgruntled elements within Kano's chapter of the APC to desist from such acts that demote them even in the society they live."

He said that,"I could remember vividly when the G7 was formed in 2020, a lot of allegations were labelled against the innocent Barau Jibrin to stop him from winning the party's gubernatorial primary election as well as retaining his senatorial seat, but God stood for him and his staunch enemies were put to shame."

Shuaibu Mustapha stressed that, "Should Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Murtala Sule Garo be contacted by the busy bodies concocting the allegation that the Deputy Senate President contributed to the failure of Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna at the supreme court, they will get to know that Barau Jibrin played a vital role that led to the success of Gawuna at the polls and at both the tribunal and the appellate court."

According to him, "And even a day before the supreme court gave its Verdict, Senator Barau along with other dignitaries did all they could to make the same thing was maintained at Supreme Court, but they were defeated by the powers of the law. And I am sure the judgement was meted out in the interest of the law of the land."

He concluded saying, "As a law-abiding Nigerian, Senator Barau Jibrin hasn't any power to dictate to the judges what they should do and what they shouldn't."
