A community based organisation in Gombe State called Lawanti Community Development Foundation' has donated grains and clothes to about 250 orphans and vulnerable children drawn from various communities around Lawanti village, Akko local government area of Gombe State, ahead of Sallah celebration,
The executive director of the foundation Abubakar Abu Ubaidah who Presented the items to the beneficiaries, explained that the gesture was meant to bring succour to orphans and other less privileged children in the village and enable them enjoy the upcoming Sallah celebrations like other residents.
Abubakar said, the community has been conducting similar gesture for the past 10 years adding that their interventions were not restricted to donation of foods at Sallah but they provide interventions in the areas of education and healthcare.
The executive director said the organisation had built a community junior secondary school and an hospital in the area as part of its contributions towards the development of the village.
"Sallah is here and we deemed it good to bring succour to the downtrodden children in our communities by donating clothes and foods to enable them celebrate the festival happily like other children.", he noted.
The chairman of the distribution committee, Abdullahi Usman explained that the orphans and vulnerable children who benefited from the gesture were drawn from different communities including; Lawanti, Malam Jamo, Gamadadi, Dunomari, Jalingo, Tongo, Wuro konkoji, Wuro dulo among others.
Some of the beneficieries interviewed expressed gratitude to the foundation and pray to Allah to reward them abundantly.
