Army Begins 4-Day Competition to Motivate Warrant Officers, SNCOs in Bauchi

As part of efforts to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force towards achieving constitutional responsibilities, the Nigerian Army has declared a 4-day competition for training and retraining for soldiers to be well equipped. 

The objectives of the competition is to improve the physical fitness of senior cadre of soldiers.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Abdussalam E Abubakar, who was represented by the Commander 33 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Emmanuel Egbe.

He said this at the opening ceremony of the 3 Division Warrant Officers WOs and Senior Non-commissioned Officers SNCOs competition 2024, held at the 33 Artillery Brigade Shadawanka Barracks Bauchi. 

The competition was organized by 3 Division for formations and units under the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

According to him, “at the end of the event it is expected that every soldier will possess skill sets of the highest quality.

GOC said it is for this reason that we continue to train and retrain in order not to be found wanting on the day of reckoning. 

He said, "the events that you shall compete on include: Drill competition, Combat Swimming competition, Map Reading and Navigation competition, firing competition as well as Combat run and Obstacle Crossing competition.

"The Nigerian Army continues to professionalize, training has continued to assume greater emphasis. We have a Chief of Army Staff who has made training a key objective in his command philosophy.” 

He said, “the Chief of Army Staff has supported us fully by making available resources required for effective training in compliance with Army Headquarters Training Directive for the year 2024 and in furtherance of 3 Division training goals for this year.”

The 4 days competition was organised under the guidance and direction of the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General AE Abubakar is inline with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment.”

General Egbe said, “the competition would enhance their leadership traits, organizational ability, use of initiative and promote esprit de corps amongst the troops.”

He advised the participants to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship, so that the best out of the participants shall emerged victorious.

Brigadier General Egbe expressed sincere gratitude to the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN for choosing 33 Artillery Brigade to host this competition at this time. 

"Also, to the Chief of Army Staff for his support, interest and commitment to ensuring officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army train in such a competitive manner and assured that he will not fail in providing the participants a favourable and balanced level playing ground to compete. 

Bauchi State Governor, who was represented by commissioner for Internal security Barrister, Abubakar Abdulhamid urged the officers to always show their qualitative skills to make them meet up with the objective set up for them during the competition. 

The governor commended the Army for their effort in the maintenance of peace and the security and assured them the continuous support and cooperation of the state government. 

He charged the participants to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship so that at the end of the training we witness an outing of the very high standard Warrant Officers’ and Senior Nob-Commissioned Officers competition 2024.
