Three days before Eid el Kabir Sallah, residents of Bauchi LGA that comprised 20 political wards have witnessed movement of sacrificial animals (Bulls and Rams), and food items donated by both the Federal and State Governments to vulnerable members of the public to celebrate Sallah in an atmosphere of joy, fanfare and pageantry amidst the biting economic hardship.
The distribution of the animals and food items was carried out by a special committee under the Chairmanship of Bauch State Deputy Governor, Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau .
The actual distribution exercise was implemented by the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the close supervision of the Commissioner, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, who also double at the secretary of the high powered State distribution committee.
The State Government also used the guidelines spelt out by the Federal Government in the composition of committees and subcommittees in the distribution of the FGs 42 metric tonnes of assorted grains given to the State.
With the approval of the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, the State Government also contributed by purchasing bulls, rams and rice that was added to the FGs food items.
Our correspondent who monitored the distribution exercise in some of the wards under Bauchi LGA saw joy, happiness and jubiliation on the faces of beneficiaries of the humanitarian gesture.
A resident of Lushi in the Miri/Birshi Ward Amina Ibrahim told our correspondent that the sharing of the food items and meat has brought so much joy to the intended vulnerable target groups.
A community leader, Alhaji Bala Jibrin (Marafan Miri) also shared his view saying, "I have been monitoring politics since Sardauna's time, but what I have seen today is highly commendable.The quality of what the Bauchi State Government is distributing in this festive period is really good. I want to particularly commend Governor Bala Mohammed for the healthy sacrificial animals the State Government is sharing".
Another resident of Yelwan Makaranta in the suburb of the metropolis, Mrs. Mrs. Jummai Ezekiel said that vulnerable members of the community are happy with the gesture. She thanked the distribution committee for doing their best in the fair and equitable sharing of the food items and meat, irrespective of political party, religion or ethnic affiliations.
Mallam Safiyanu of Dan'iya Hardo Ward also showered his encomiums on the Bauchi State Government for remembering them during the festive Sallah period.
"At least we are assured of cooking palatable meals during the Sallah period" said Mallam Safiyanu.
It is the same praise from the people of Gwaskwaram Ward, where they all expressed their happiness for the food items and meat that was extended to them to celebrate the Sallah.
Hajiya Basira Abdulsalam, the Councillor representing Birshi/Miri Ward was seen, through the best part of Saturday night, monitoring the sharing exercise, to ensure no deserving member of the Ward is denied his or her share.
Hajiya Basira expressed her gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for complementing the effort of the Federal Government through additional food items and sacrificial animals.
"I want to say that here, Governor Bala Mohammed has brought smiles on the faces of the general public especially the most vulnerable groups in our communities of Bauchi State".
As at the time of filing this report (Sallah Day), distribution and sharing is still ongoing in some communities.
