BAHA Speaker Submits Bill for Safety, Security in Bauchi Schools


In his effort to ensure Security and making Schools favorable domain for teaching and learning, the Honorable Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman (ÆŠangaladiman Ningi) submitted A Bill for the Safety and Security in Bauchi State Schools. 

The Safety and Security in Schools Bill is aimed at strengthening security of Students in all learning environments. 

In a press statement signed by Mukhtar Garba Kobi, acting spokesperson of the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, said if established, it will protect students and teachers from abduction, violence while building stronger protection against activities of criminals in Schools.

This statement further stated that the Honorable Speaker while responding to journalists after the success of the Bill in passing first and second reading in State House, said that "The elements that cause mayhem and instability in communities especially those targeting Schools will no longer have the chance if the Bill is passed into law."

"The Bill suggested for a Commission or Agency to be regularly supervising security architecture on Schools located away from towns or those insecurity ravaged areas."

"The Bill if it come into existence will ensure that an agency will be saddled with the responsibilities of building long fences, stationing of security agents at all angles, checking visitors before entering or leaving Schools premises," he said.

"It will strictly cover all Schools under SUBEB that's Primary and Secondary Schools because most of Higher Institutions have their internal securities while basic ones do not," the Speaker revealed.

He further explained that, "We have seen numerous incidences where School teachers along with outsiders connived in stealing Schools' facilities meant to aid the learning process; this Bill if approved will put a halt to the dastard acts."

"I am happy that the Bill has passed first and second reading in the House, now it is sent to the Joint Committees of Eduaction and Security to work on it. The Committees were given five (5) weeks to scrutinise and come back with tangible report."

In summary, members of the general public will be sensitized and oriented on the Bill so that to make them knowledgeable and work in synergy with stakeholders when it is signed by the people's Governor, Senator Bala Mohammad. 

The Bill if pass into Law will serve as preventive measure against unforeseen activities of criminals in entire Bauchi State Schools. It is therefore Bill of the masses for the masses to secure the masses's children in Primary and Secondary Schools for them to harness their potentials and thrive.
