Bauchi Varsity VC Seeks Completion of Perimeter Fencing, Additional Hostel Blocks

From: Samuel Luka, Bauchi

The vice Chancellor of Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU) Bauchi, Professor Fatimah Tahir has make case for the completion of the perimeter fencing of its campuses in order provide adequate security for both the students and the infrastructural facilities of the institution.

Professor Fatimah Tahir who made the plea while giving a vote of thanks during the official flag off of the 2024 tree planting campaign at the Yuli Campus of the university on Saturday, informed the state government that due to the incompletion of the perimeter fencing, animals usually find it easy to penetrate the campus.

"Last year AcreaCel planted seedlings on over a 1.5 hectres of land space here in Yuli Campus, and also provided a borehole along with it to ensure the survival of the trees", she said.

The vice Chancellor hinted that ACReal is proposing a 2000 seedlings plantation on two hectres of land at Gadau campus.

"Your Excellency may wish to inspect the already existing 1.5 hectres of plantations here at Yuli Campus at the end of this programme. However, Your Excellency, due to incomplete fencing of the campus, we have incidences of animals coming in to destroy some of the plants", she said.

Professor Fatimah Tahir further pleaded: "We are therefore, soliciting for the state through your good office to assist the university with complete perimeter fencing of all the three campuses as it will go a long way in enhancing security of lives especially our students and properties of the university".

The VC who also emphasized the need for additional hostel blocks both in Yuli and Gadau Campuses, noted that majority of the students stay off campus and are exposed to many security challenges ranging from attacks, stealing of their properties to exposure to cult activities.

While soliciting the indulgence of the Governor to inspect the students' hostel block under construction, Prof Fatima expressed the gratitude of the university to the governor and the ministry of Housing and Environment for finding time to attend the ceremony.

Our Correspondent reports that the university gave award of excellence to the Governor for his developmental strides across the state.

"At this point, I would like to, on behalf of the university governing council, management, senate, staff and students of the Sa'adu Zungur University present your Excellency with the award of excellence for all the developmental projects across the state and in Sa'adu Zungur University specifically", she said.
