The Bauchi State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Coalition has thrown its weight behind Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the party's Acting National Chairman.
This show of support was declared by Comrade Sagir A. Sardauna, Chairman of the Coalition, at a press briefing held at Zaranda Hotel in Bauchi on Wednesday.
Saradauna said Damagum's loyalty to the PDP since 1998 was cited as a key reason for the coalition's backing.
He noted that Damagum has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the party's success, particularly during the 2023 presidential election when he wholeheartedly supported the PDP candidate.
The coalition highlighted Damagum's historic win in Yobe State, where he secured victory for the PDP for the first time.
However, some critics have opposed Damagum, with some allegedly supporting the APC candidate in their respective states and lobbying for ministerial positions or government parastatals.
The Coalition therefore urged all PDP stakeholders, including governors, National Working Committee (NWC) members, and Board of Trustees (BoT) members, to rally behind Damagum.
Sardauna added that this support is crucial for the party's unity and success in upcoming gubernatorial elections in Ondo, Osun, and Anambra states.
The Coalition however condemned propaganda efforts against Damagum, vowing to resist any attempts to disrespect or unconstitutionally remove him as Acting National Chairman.
They emphasized the importance of respecting the recent Abuja Federal High Court judgment.
