In its latest bid to maintain a safe and clean platform, TikTok has removed over 2.1 million videos in Nigeria for violating its community guidelines, between January and June 2024.
This move is part of the company's efforts to ensure consistency and prevent the spread of negative content.
According to tatistics, 99.1% of the deleted videos were removed before being reported, 90.7% were removed within 24 hours. The deleted videos account for less than 1% of total videos uploaded by Nigerians during the same period.
Globally, TikTok has taken down more than 178 million videos, with 144 million removed automatically by computer algorithms. This massive content moderation effort demonstrates TikTok's commitment to providing a secure and enjoyable experience for its users.
It's worth noting that TikTok has been strengthening its content moderation practices in response to regulatory demands, particularly from the European Union's Digital Services Act.
The company has also been investing heavily in AI-driven content moderation to enhance efficiency and meet growing regulatory requirements.
