Hundreds of concerned citizens joined the National Coalition of Youths in a peaceful protest in Abuja, calling for an investigation into Senator Shehu Umar Buba's alleged links to banditry activities.
The coalition, led by Bashir Gusau, expressed deep concern over the gravity of the accusations and urged relevant authorities to take immediate action.
Gusau emphasized that no individual, regardless of their political standing, should be exempt from scrutiny if implicated in activities threatening national security.
"The safety and security of our people should be of paramount concern to every leader in this country," he stated.
The coalition called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, and Nigerian security agencies to take swift and decisive action.
Gusau noted that allowing the allegations to go uninvestigated would fuel public distrust and erode confidence in the fight against insecurity.
Some of their key demands include thorough investigation into the allegations against Senator Buba, transparency and justice, ensuring accountability for those implicated in banditry activities as well as urgent action from relevant authorities to address the allegations and maintain public trust.
The protest has garnered reactions from stakeholders, with some residents of Bauchi South applauding the youths for standing up against alleged impunity.
The National Coalition of Youths remains committed to peaceful engagement and urges other Nigerians to join their call for accountability.
As Nigeria continues to battle insecurity, protests like these highlight the critical role of citizen advocacy in holding public figures accountable.
The coming days will reveal whether this protest prompts a much-needed investigation into Senator Buba's alleged ties to banditry.
