In a shocking turn of events, three suspects arrested by the Bauchi State Police have confessed to committing a gruesome murder, citing allegations of witchcraft as their motive.
Abdu Lamba and Ruwa Aliyu, the suspects, revealed that Rakiya Ya'u, the daughter-in-law of the victim, had hired them to carry out the deadly attack.
According to their confession, Rakiya alleged that her father-in-law, Damina Lamba, was practicing witchcraft and was responsible for the death of her son the previous year.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Muhammad while briefing journalists on the development said "on October 25, 2024, the lifeless body of Damina Lamba was discovered in a bush between Wuro Dangogo and Sarma village, bearing marks of violence on his head."
"The police swiftly responded, conveying the body to General Hospital Misau, where Lamba was confirmed dead by a medical doctor."
"Led by the DPO, operatives from Misau Divisional Police Headquarters launched an investigation to uncover the perpetrators behind the heinous crime," the CP added.
He further said, "Their efforts paid off on October 30, 2024, when three suspects were taken into custody in connection with the murder."
"The suspects, all residents of Wuro Dangogo hamlet in Sarma ward are, Abdu Lamba (20-year-old male), Ruwa Aliyu (22-year-old male), Rakiya Ya'u (20-year-old female)."
During interrogation, Abdu Lamba and Ruwa Aliyu confessed to their involvement in the crime.
They revealed that Rakiya Ya'u had hired them to commit the murder, alleging that her father-in-law, Damina Lamba, was practicing witchcraft and was responsible for the death of her son the previous year.
Two sticks, believed to be the murder weapons, were recovered as evidence. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crime.
