In its efforts to combat kidnapping in and other heinous activities, the Bauchi State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough where two individuals suspected of being informants for kidnapping gangs have been arrested.
In a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Ahmed Muhammad Wakil, on November 10, 2024, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested the two suspects in Alkaleri local government area.
Wakil said he suspects, who are alleged to have participated in multiple kidnapping activities, freely confessed to their involvement in several cases.
The PPRO said, "These include a kidnapping incident in Garin Gambo village on September 7, 2024, where a ransom of N4 million was demanded, and another case in Gub village, where a perpetrator received N3 million for the release of a victim."
"The suspects also played a role in the abduction of three individuals in Anguwan Gero, resulting in the tragic death of two victims despite a ransom payment of N14 million."
"During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had been observing affluent individuals visiting the villages and reporting their findings to their criminal associates to facilitate the selection of potential kidnapping targets."
Wakil added that, "One of the suspects, identified as Yusuf, admitted to participating in two kidnapping incidents and receiving minor payments of N10,000 and N3,000 subsequent to the ransom payments."
"The suspects are currently assisting the police with vital information to aid the investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiries," said the PPRO.
