Electricity Restored in Shongom Communities After Nine-Year Blackout


Communities in Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State are celebrating the restoration of power after a nine-year outage that severely impacted economic and social activities. 

The Chairperson of Shongom Local Government, Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello, announced the restoration of power while assisting 300 people affected by floods in the area .

According to Hajiya Bello, the project, which cost over N25 million, will cover all nine wards in the local government area and has already benefited communities such as Shongom, Lallapido, Jauro Saje Filya, Gonde, and Gundari. 

The chairperson emphasized that the project's sustainability relies on the community's ability to pay a reasonable tariff, which will help grow their businesses.

The Commissioner of Local Government, Alhaji Abdukardir Muhammad, commended Hajiya Bello for executing people-oriented projects that align with the administration of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya. 

Residents praised the chairperson for her efforts, describing the restoration of power as a "miracle" that will improve economic activities and enhance security in the area .

The communities expressed their gratitude, recounting their struggles during the blackout, including paying for phone charging and clothes ironing. With the return of power, they look forward to enhanced growth, revived local trade, and a better quality of life. 

Hajiya Bello's leadership has set a high standard for others to emulate, demonstrating her focus on governance and the needs of the Shongom people.
