Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has once again rijig hope and confidence of the people of Jigawa state by consolidating the impactful water project to end the long-term perennial shortage of water in Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa and it environ soon.
Over the years of its existence as a state successive government have tried to solve the lingering water issue but, little was achieved to ameliorate the needful water in the state and beyond. Starting from one-time governor of Jigawa state. Ali Sa’adu Birnin kudu, who thought of lying a bedrock to address the water shortage in the state by bringing water down to Dutse metropolis from Sintilmawa river from Ringim local government as part of his contribution to the development of the state as a civilian Governor.
In his remark penultimate week, a three times commissioner of water Resources in the state Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa, who is the engine room of the Dutse Greater Water project for being part former Governors Saminu Turaki and Badaru Abubakar in the past and presently serving the popular Administration of Governor Umar Namadi as commissioner for water Resources confirmed the progress of the Dutse Greater water and its position so far and the possible period of completion as well as government pledged to federal government that yield a better result in the ongoing multi billion naira project.
The water project has been in the heart of every civilian Government right from Ali Sa,adu Birnin kudu administration down to the present Administration of Malam Namadi Danmodi. The project which was determine to drawn the water from Sintilmawa river down to Dutse the state capital with a view to address the menace of water shortage which disturbed the people living within the state capital and environs for decades was the real Idea of ‘Dutse Greater Water.
For the past 23 years people living in the city of Dutse had been experiencing the water shortage, when the government of the than Ali Sa'adu Birnin kudu awarded the first contract to one engineering company at the cost of six billion to ensure good supply of water to Dutse communities but the initiative failed. That contract was awarded to licusima construction engineering company who had made all the necessary survey for the project, but due to some reasons the Government of that time was not been able to actualized the project.
Similarly, in the year 2000 former governor Saminu Turaki’s Administration also indicate the interest to addressed the water problem in the state capital in which all plan was made after three years the government also awarded the contract of one company M Plan at the cost of N7.8 billion Naira targeting 11 million liters of water to be pump to Dutse from Sintilmawa which also failed.
Former Governor Sule Lamido, also tried his best and rewarded the contract to the same company at the cost of N7 billion but also failed to be actualized at initial, it further rewarded the contract to interested engineering company which reduce the money to N6 billion and made some changes of tools from metal pipes to rubber pipes but with high quality also that administration has failed to achieved the project.
Also, the administration of Badaru Abubakar had done it best to review the contract at the cost of N6.490 billion to the same interested engineering company in 2019 and later change it to another company as indigenous company Mai Sudan at the cost of N9.6 billion.
Afterward, same Government of Badaru Abubakar review the contract to premium company who desire to use ductile iron at the cost of N12 billion naira to actualized the project also failed.
The incumbent government of Umar Namadi, at the inception of power didn’t waste time consolidate th vital project, which N30 billion were earmarked on the project for its real actualization for being the largest project that bring admiration.
To actualize it the governor personally appealed to federal Government for the support, which without much ado received it from the federal Government who approved the sum of N59.4 billion Naira for the project, any moment unstoppable work will kick up.
The commissioner for water resources Hannun Giwa, assured that government commitment to prompt and quality deliverance of the impactful mega water project, assuring massive reticulation and networking boost social and economic wellbeing of the people within the stipulated period.
