AGILE: Governor Bala Mohammed Leads Charge on Girl's Education in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed, has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to advancing girls' education, citing its importance to societal development.

Speaking at the Traditional and Religious Leaders Conference on Improving Girls' Education in the North-East, Governor Muhammed highlighted key initiatives undertaken by his administration to enhance educational access for girls.

These include the construction of over 5,000 classroom blocks and the renovation of several others to accommodate the increasing number of students.

The governor also appreciated the vital role traditional and religious leaders play in encouraging school enrollment, retention, and completion, particularly among girls.
He mentioned the establishment of the Second Chance School, which provides alternative learning opportunities for girls who may have dropped out of formal education.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, lamented that the Nigerian girl-child is becoming increasingly vulnerable to extortion and child labor. He emphasized that despite the free and compulsory basic education program, many barriers prevent girls from accessing education.

The conference, organized by the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, focused on strategies to address challenges facing girls' education in the insurgency-affected North-East region.

The event also featured the investiture of the Bauchi State First Lady as the Ambassador of Girls' Education in the North-East sub-region, further solidifying the administration's commitment to this critical cause.
