The Mai Kaltungo, Engineer Saleh Mohammed, has attributed the reduction in herder-farmer conflicts in Bauchi State to the collaborative efforts of the state government, local government, and the emirate.
Mohammed made this known while interacting with journalists in his palace. He said the involvement of all stakeholders and the support of the state governor and local government chairmen have helped to consolidate peaceful coexistence between herdsmen and farmers.
According to him, the Fulani herdsmen are allowed to graze their cattle in the area only after farm owners have finished harvesting their crops. He also said that cattle rearers are required to pay for any damaged farm produce.
Mohammed also disclosed that a Prevention and Settlement Committee, comprising Fulani leaders, intervenes in disputes between farmers and herders to resolve issues amicably.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kaltungo Local Government, Honourable Iliya Suleiman Jatau, has expressed his commitment to supporting the committee's efforts to eliminate conflicts between herdsmen and farmers.
