The Collation of Northern Groups has commended Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State for presenting the 2025 budget proposal, titled "The Budget of Innovation & Transformation for Greater Jigawa."
According to Comr. Ukashatu Bello, State Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Jigawa State Chapter, the budget reflects a genuine commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the lives of Jigawa citizens.
The group praised the 17.2% allocation to education, which aligns with UNESCO's recommendation of 15-20%. They also commended the substantial investment of 76% of the budget in capital projects, which signifies a strategic focus on infrastructure and long-term growth.
Other commendable aspects of the budget include the allocation of N148 billion to roads and infrastructure, the focus on renewable energy, and the investment in a medical village and diagnostic center.
However, the group recommended some adjustments, including increasing the health sector's allocation to meet the 15% target set by the Abuja Declaration.
They also suggested allocating more resources to agricultural development and food security, as well as strengthening mechanisms for transparency and accountability.
The group urged the Jigawa State House of Assembly to prioritize the swift passage of the budget and institute a mid-year review mechanism to assess progress and reallocate resources as needed.
