The Tafawa Balewa Town Development Association (TABTODA) has rejected the Bauchi State Governor's proposal to site the headquarters of the Sayawa Chiefdom in Tafawa Balewa town.
Mallam Yunusa Ado, secretary of TABTODA, expressed the association's opposition to the proposal during a press conference in Bauchi. Ado stated that while the association had previously accepted the creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom as a means of achieving lasting peace in the area, they had always maintained that Tafawa Balewa town should not be included in the chiefdom's domain.
Ado explained that Tafawa Balewa town was founded by the Fulani people and that all villages and settlements in the area are not Sayawa villages. He questioned how these villages could be expected to pay allegiance to the Sayawa Chiefdom.
The TABTODA secretary also alleged that the recent fact-finding committee set up by the government was one-sided and did not represent the interests of all stakeholders in Tafawa Balewa. He called on Governor Bala Muhammad to reconsider the proposal and to prioritize justice and fairness in his decision-making.
Ado's statement comes after Governor Muhammad announced plans to create the Sayawa Chiefdom and site its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Township, following the receipt of a report from a Fact Finding Committee on the Creation of the Chiefdom.
