From: Murtala Muhammad |

In a move to enhance healthcare delivery, the Bauchi State Government has signed contracts worth over 7.4 billion naira with five construction companies for the upgrading of 118 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.

The initiative, to be carried out in 20 local government areas, is being executed through the World Bank-assisted Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project.

Our correspondent reports that the signing of the agreements took place at the conference hall of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board (BSPHCB) and was witnessed by the State Commissioner for Health, the State Coordinator of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), directors, and other stakeholders.

Providing an update on the awarded contracts, the Programme Manager of the IMPACT Project, Dr Adamu Muhammad, said the signing of the documents was a key indicator that both parties have committed to working in line with the World Bank's guidelines and specifications.

Dr Adamu Muhammad explained that the bidding process was competitive and transparent, noting that out of the total number of applicants for the contracts, five companies were selected based on their integrity and financial stability.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sani Mohammed, said that upgrading the health centres would improve primary healthcare services, maternal and child health outcomes, better management of common diseases, and overall healthcare delivery across the state.

He called on the contractors to collaborate closely with local government authorities, host communities, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of their assignments.

The Executive Chairman of BSPHCB, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and access to services for residents, particularly in underserved communities.

Speaking on behalf of the companies, Ahmed Kasim Bello commended the IMPACT Project for its comprehensive and transparent approach throughout the bidding process and assured the public that the work would be completed within the six-month period stipulated in the agreement.
