From: Ahmed Ahmed

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called for the promotion of diaspora investment potentials in the North-East region.

The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa made the call at sensitization and advocacy for the promotion of diaspora investment potential in North East on Monday in Bauchi.

The Sensitisation and Advocacy organised by NiDCOM in collaboration of Stage by Stage Projects Limited host by Bauchi State government.

She emphasized the importance of unlocking diaspora investment potentials to drive sustainable development in the region.

Dabiri-Erewa stressed that creating an enabling environment that attracts diaspora investment is crucial.

She urged Nigerians with connections abroad, government officials, policymakers, students, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and community leaders to support this initiative.

The Chairman, represented by Mr. Sule Base, Secretary of the Commission, noted that unlocking the potentials for diaspora investment in North-east Nigeria requires a multifaceted approach that involves government policies, advocacy, and strategic partnerships.

The NiDCOM Chairman reiterated the Commission's commitment to providing opportunities for Nigerians in the diaspora to engage and invest in Nigeria, recognizing their crucial role in the country's development.

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State expressed his commitment to making the state investor-friendly, recognizing the significant potential of Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to the region's development.

"Nigerians in the diaspora constitute a major source of potential investment to us and, of course, a source of knowledge, ideas, experiences, and expertise that has all it takes to turn around our fortunes," Mohammed said.

The Governor, represented by Hajiya Amina Katagum, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, acknowledged the region's challenges, including its reliance on statutory allocations and the impact of Boko Haram's activities on the farming sector.

To address this, Governor Mohammed directed the Diaspora Focal Point Officer (DFPO) of the State to establish a strong partnership with NIDCOM to tap into diaspora investment potentials.
