In a bid to alleviate poverty and foster economic empowerment, 200 beneficiaries in Bogoro Local Government Area (LGA) are set to receive ₦150,000 each under the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Livelihood Support program.
The initiative, which is part of a collaboration between the federal government, World Bank, and Bauchi State, is designed to provide financial support to households in need. The disbursement is intended to improve the livelihood of recipients and stimulate local economic activities.
Daiyabu Hassan, the state facilitator of the program, made the announcement during a screening and training session held at the local government conference hall. The event aimed to equip the beneficiaries with essential skills to effectively manage their grants. The training, part of the Livelihood Support Disbursement Link Indicator, provided practical knowledge on business management, financial literacy, and other soft skills.
In her address, Mrs. Fibi K. Hassan urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the training and actively apply their newly acquired skills to succeed. She emphasized that the grants are meant to support households and will be closely monitored to ensure their proper use.
The Executive Chairman of Bogoro LGA, Hon. Yakubu Lawi Sumi, also stressed the importance of using the funds judiciously. He encouraged participants to focus on sustainable livelihood initiatives that will not only improve their personal well-being but also contribute to the development of the community. Hon. Sumi reminded the beneficiaries that proper identification and monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure the funds are used for their intended purposes.
Two of the program's beneficiaries, Mr. Ishaku Tsammani and Mrs. Mary Ayuba, expressed their optimism about the support they will receive. According to them, the grant will enable them to purchase essential materials, improve their business operations, and contribute to the local economy.
This initiative is part of the broader NG-CARES program, which seeks to support vulnerable communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides both financial support and skill-building opportunities to help households recover and thrive in the post-pandemic economy.
