In a call for strengthened governance and security, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged both federal and state governments to prioritize people-oriented policies aimed at fostering national stability and addressing pressing socio-political challenges.

Governor Mohammed made the remarks during the 2024 awards ceremony organized by the Bauchi State Police Command, where he commended the efforts of security agencies in safeguarding public safety across the state.

Speaking at the event, the governor applauded the commitment of security forces, particularly the police, for their active role in responding to crime and ensuring a safe environment for citizens. He also acknowledged the success of the Federal Government's Food Security Agenda, which has played a crucial role in enhancing agricultural productivity and combating hunger and poverty among Nigerians.

"The security of lives and property is a fundamental pillar for national stability. We must implement people-centered policies that not only address security issues but also provide economic opportunities to reduce poverty and hunger," Governor Mohammed stated.

He went on to praise the collaboration between the state government and security agencies that has made Bauchi one of the safest states in the country. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in maintaining law and order and tackling criminality in the state.

In his address, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Muhammad also highlighted the critical role of public cooperation in ensuring the success of law enforcement efforts. He emphasized the importance of reliable information from citizens, describing the public as indispensable partners in the fight against crime.

The Commissioner of Police also outlined the efforts taken by the police command to maintain internal discipline, revealing that 18 police officers had faced disciplinary actions for professional misconduct. This included the dismissal of one constable and the demotion of four officers.

CP Muhammad underscored the significance of cooperation between the police, other security agencies, religious leaders, and traditional rulers in fostering a collaborative approach to crime prevention. He added that this partnership has been instrumental in addressing the unique security challenges faced by Bauchi.

The awards ceremony saw the presentation of accolades to outstanding officers for their exemplary service, along with messages of goodwill from various stakeholders in the community. The event also featured cultural performances and entertainment, celebrating the continued progress in ensuring security and stability in the state.

As Bauchi continues to build on its successes, Governor Mohammed’s call for sustained cooperation and people-centered policies resonates as a crucial step towards tackling broader national challenges, ensuring peace, and fostering long-term prosperity.
