The Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy, Alkaleri (BOGAA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with an American based online institute, PetroEd to provide oil field training, certifications and education solutions for the institution.
The Rector of the Academy, Dr. Ahmad Yaro, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Monday, explained that the US-based institute would train 50 skilled persons in the industry on courses like RigPass with Basic Principles of Petroleum among others.
To this end, the Rector urged the people of the state to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the institute towards having the requisite skills and certificate to work in the Oil and Gas Industry worldwide.
He said that the academy currently offers eight courses under its Skills Acquisition component, eight courses under Diploma in Oil & Gas component as well as four courses under its Core Oil & Gas component.
"We're partnering with PetroEd, a US-based online Institute. Governor Bala Mohammed has already paid the engagement fees for them to come and train 50 people and we are currently advertising three courses in that regard.
“I want to guarantee that the professional certification to be given after the training is internationally recognised and currently we are waiting for prospective applicants,” he said.
According to him, the over 500 graduands admitted by the academy last year to study Automotive Mechatronics, Masonry, Carpentry, Electrical, Computer Hardware maintenance and GSM repairs would soon receive their professional certification from various professional bodies like the Automotive Council of Nigeria, National Institute of Builders, among others.
Dr Yaro further explained that another 260 are currently running various programmes at middle level to include automotive mechatronics, building construction, computer hardware and software engineering, solar technology, telecommunications among others with the approval of NBTE.
He added that four courses under Core Oil & Gas to include RigPass, Minimum Industry Safety, Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Health, Safety and Environment have been approved and applicants could apply on its website www.bogaa.edu.ng.
While calling on people in the state to enroll into various programmes being offered, the Rector noted that a befitting permanent site with all the required facilities is currently under construction at Alkaleri.
